Rick Stratton:

I Hate Google's Self Driving Car

April 27 2012

I saw this post in on Google Plus this morning and I realized:  I HATE Google's self driving cars.

Why? The Government and Google are going to force them on us.

We will all be using (not driving) these things. And self driving cars are going to make highway driving incredibly safer.  42,636 people died in car crashes in 2006.  Self driving cars could make could save thousands of lives per year! That's incredible.

But I STILL hate them. Because,  I LOVE to drive and I LOVE cars (except for Toyotas and Lexuses which are teh suk and have no soul).   I love driving to the gas station. I love driving my kids to school. I love doing road trips.

Why can't Google stick to making web software?   It's not because Larry wants to save lives.  He doesn't care about us.  Drivers of cars can't surf, can't search, can't use gmail or Google Plus. They can't click on Google Adwords and watch Youtube video ads.

I know it's coming.  I'll have to sit in (not drive) a car that looks like Prius. If we ain't driving them, we won't care what they look like.  When my kids turn 16, I'll teach them to sit in a car.

Please don't make me watch the self-driving Indy 500.

(If you've lost a friend or family member to a car accident, please please don't take offense to my rant.)
